WHAT TO EXPECT WITH FIRST VISIT

Epilepsy treatment:  When you come to the NSPC Epilepsy Program, you be asked to complete a questionnaire on each visit.  One question asks you about injuries or fractures you may have suffered from directly or indirectly from having epilepsy.  A report in the July 2012 issue of Neurology, reminds us why falls and fractures in epilepsy patients, is such an important issue.  Antiepileptic drugs, particularly the older variety are associated with a significantly increased risk of weakening bones and making them more prone to fractures.  This study also showed that many individuals with epilepsy are unaware of these risks.  At our center, we will likely discuss with you your calcium and vitamin D intake, and may order a diagnostic test called the Bone Density DXA scan, to assess your bone health.

OUT OF TOWN GUIDE

As a nationally-renowned leader in the field of epilepsy, Dr. Ettinger and his team frequently provide second opinions for individuals from the local region as well as from throughout the U.S.  Our caring staff will strive to schedule your appointment quickly, will provide you information on local accommodations and when indicated may be able to schedule both a consultation and necessary testing during your visit.

For an appointment, please contact Ms. Rosemary Valdez at 516-442-2250
